Habitat for Humanity of Deep East Texas chooses its homeowners based on three key criteria, evaluating applications without regard to race, religion, or background:
Living in substandard conditions, overcrowded housing, high rent burden, or unsafe environments.
Perform sweat equity hours helping build your home & others, and attend homebuyer financial independence courses.
Demonstrate stable income to cover the monthly zero-interest mortgage and property taxes over a 20-year term.
If you can answer YES to all of the qualification questions below, you may be eligible to become a Habitat homeowner.
Have you been a resident of Angelina or Nacogdoches County for at least one full year?
Are you a first-time home buyer, or has it been several years since you owned a home?
Are you willing to perform sweat equity building your home and homes for neighbors?
Can you prove a consistent, stable gross income for the past 24 months or more?
Will you allow Habitat to run credit, criminal background, and sex offender checks?
Does your gross household income fall between 30% and 80% of the HUD median income?
